Hope this letter finds you and your family doing well as we begin the fall season of the year.

Let me begin by saying how grateful I am for everyone who came out for the "Great Graysville Homecoming Weekend" events on July 9th, 10th and 11th.  We had people visit us from thirty (30) states and four (4) foreign countries for the festivites.

Everyone throughout the area is excited about the Grand Opening of the Graysville Lowe's.  This will be the greatest economic impact that our part of the county has ever seen.  Lowe's has invested between 12 to 15 million dollars in the building of the new location that will bring in almost a million dollars ($1,000,000.00) in sales tax revenue and create close to 200 jobs for Graysville.

For employment opportunities you may visit the Lowe's web site at www.lowes.com.  The Grand Opening is tentatively scheduled for November and we will keep you updated as to the official date of the Grand Opening of the new Lowe's.

As Mayor of the City of Graysville and the Superintendent of your Gas & Water systems, I want to share some exciting news about the progress that we are making around our town and within the areas served by Graysville Gas & Water.

I have shared my vision for the City and its utility services with the other City leaders.  Together, we have made a commitment to work for you to make sure you will enjoy the benefits of our City's progress.  I am fortunate to have support of the other City leaders and we will continue this commitment as follows:
  • We will work to provide improvements in services to make our lives better.
  • We will work to protect and improve our property values.
  • We will work to make sure Graysville is able to participate in the growth of our region.
  • We are now beginning to see exciting results in the efforts of Graysville's City leaders and I wanted to share the good news with you.

Improvements in our Gas and Water Services

We've been busy making several improvements in our Gas and Water Services and we want to share some of those with you.  We have implemented a new Customer Information System which will allow us to process your gas and water requests faster and more efficiently.  You will notice the new bill format resulting from this new system.  We have also adopted new Gas and Water Policies and Procedures that will allow our staff to work consistently to serve you better by following the industry's best practices.  You will soon have the ability to make credit card and on-line payments for your utility services.  We are working harder to make sure you get top-notch customer service every time you call in or come by our office.  As you probably know, we have had amnesty days in 2008 and in 2009, when we allowed our customers an opportunity to catch up on their utility bills without any interruption of service.  We are also installing new gas and water meters for improved metering of your service.  Our overall goal for our Gas and Water system is to provide you with first class service at rates affordable to our customers.

Interstate 22

The new Interstate 22 (Corridor X) is progressing, and is already providing our citizens with better transportation in and out of Graysville.  The westerly highway from Graysville has been completed, making interstate highway available all the way to Memphis.  The highway work to Birmingham is in progress and expected to be completed in 2010.  The new completed route will open several business opportunities along the Graysville exits and economic growth will occur as a result of this new highway.

We are certainly pleased with these and other improvements for all of us in Graysville and for those of you who are customers of Graysville Gas and Water.  I am extremely thankful to our City Council Members, our Water Board Members and the hard working employees who are all dedicated to the progress we are making.  I hope you will continue to support our City and its utility services, and enjoy the results of the improvements and growth in our area.  We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and we thank you for being our customer.

Doug Brewer, Mayor
City of Graysville
